Sale Post: 2000 Silver Lunar Dragon Five Coin Set

As per my post earlier today I am inviting Lunar coin collectors to send in details and photos of your sale items if you are interested in having them posted on this blog (only rare sets and coins will be posted).

The set below is no longer available for sale.

The Five Coin Set was introduced in 1999 with the first Silver Lunar coins produced by the Perth Mint, however was discontinued part way through the first series. Here is a list of the releases and their max mintage/actual sales:

YearDenominationDescriptionMintageSales
1999$30, $10, $2, $1, 50c(1kg, 10oz, 2oz, 1oz, 1/2oz) Five-coin set - Rabbit500129
2000$30, $10, $2, $1, 50c(1kg, 10oz, 2oz, 1oz, 1/2oz) Five-coin set - Dragon500266
2001$30, $10, $2, $1, 50c(1kg, 10oz, 2oz, 1oz, 1/2oz) Five-coin set - Snake500289
2002$30, $10, $2, $1, 50c(1kg, 10oz, 2oz, 1oz, 1/2oz) Five-coin set - Horse50068
2003$30, $10, $2, $1, 50c(1kg, 10oz, 2oz, 1oz, 1/2oz) Five-coin set - Goat50048
2004$30, $10, $2, $1, 50c(1kg, 10oz, 2oz, 1oz, 1/2oz) Five-coin set - Monkey50084
As can be seen above the Dragon had the second highest number of sales (of the Five Coin Sets), however the popularity of the design has seen the Dragon coins command the largest premium and they are usually the most sought after.

As per the table above the Five Coin Sets contain 1/2oz, 1oz, 2oz, 10oz and 1 Kilo Silver Proof coins all sporting the same stunning design.

While the rest of the coins in  this set were either sold separately or as a part of other sets (for example the Three Coin Set) the 10oz Proof Silver coin was not. So the 10oz Proof Silver coin in these sets is extremely rare and can only be sourced by purchasing one of these sets or finding one which has been split from the set.

I personally have the Five Coin Set for the 2002 Horse design and it's a stunning set in the flesh (photos don't do it justice), but here are some pictures that the seller has provided (click any of the below images to enlarge):

Cheers
